The FUTC 2018 group stage has drawn to a close with the teams that will move on to the knockout stages being finalized.

Gateway Colombo, Gateway Kandy, Lyceum Nugegoda, Lyceum Wattala, Royal Institute, British School, CIS Colombo and Elizabeth Moir have managed to make it through to the quarterfinals.

Below are results of the final group stage matches of the FUTC 2018.

British School in Colombo v Lyceum Panadura

The boys from Panadura came into this clash with back to back 5-0 losses, looking to save their reputations. They started positively, scoring their first goal of the tournament via Sajad Jazook. A fierce battle ensued which saw British school score twice to end the first half with a 2-1 advantage.

Sajad Jazook seemed to be a one man army as he battled his heart out, scoring 2 more goals to secure a well-deserved hat-trick, but without enough backing from his team, LIS Panadura fell as British won the game 6-3.

Gateway Kandy, Colombo International School and …

Lyceum Nugegoda v Gateway Kandy

The boys from Nugegoda were coming off a big 5-0 win against their brothers from Panadura, while Gateway Kandy lost their last match 3-2 to British.

It was however the lads from Kandy who finished on top, scoring 3 goals in the span of 5 minutes to end the first half 3-0. They went on to put on a resolute defensive masterclass in the second half to win the game 3-0.

Gateway Colombo v Lyceum Wattala

Gateway Colombo had a dominant group stage, and it continued in their final group game as they led the boys from Wattala 2-1 at half time. The attack only intensified in the second half as they went onto score 3 more goals, with LIS Wattala pulling one back as well, before the match ended 5-2.

Colombo International School v Asian International School

AIS failed to get any points in their opening fixture where they lost 3-0 to Alethea.  Their luck did not improve after a dull first half ended 0-0, before Arhaan Khosla broke the dead lock less than 10 minutes away from full time, to give CIS a 1-0 victory.

Alethea International School v Royal Institute

RI continued their great goal scoring form as they finished the first half with a 4-0 lead. The second half was no different as Seiyed Arshad who had been having an impressive tournament thus far, scored 2 more goals to add to his 1st half one to complete an impressive hat-trick. Nimantha Gunasekara who had scored a hat-trick in the first match added a brace in this as RI won the game in 8-0.
