Football Pitch for Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha

Dream come true for the students of Stafford Sri Lanka School in Doha as the much anticipated football pitch was officially declared open on 04th February 2018.

The historic occasion was graced by Mr. Abobakr Mahmoud Aboelhassan – Finance Manager of Abdulla Bin Khalid Al-Thani Real Estate Company as the Chief Guest, Mr. Ariyasiri Vithanage – Veteran Media Personality & Chairman of Tradlanka Holdings and Mrs. Surayya Hazari as the Guests of Honour. Special guests representing the Qatar Football Association (QFA), other distinguished invitees, Mr. Kumdu Fonseka – Chairman Board of Trustees, Mr. Upali Jayasinghe – The Principal, teachers, students and parents were also present.

The Grand opening ceremony was followed by three matches, including an exhibition match between Birla Public School and Pakistan International School in Qatar. Stafford Sri Lankan school boys matches were exciting and added much glamour to the evening.

This project is in line with the school’s major infrastructure and sports development plan and the pitch will certainly pave a huge platform to strengthen the sporting skills of the students. Stafford Sri Lankan School is the only Sri Lankan community school existing in Qatar, which was established in the year 2001, with a few students and presently it provides education to over one thousand Sri Lanka expatriates children living in the State of Qatar. The school is blessed with a bunch of multitalented students, who have excelled in academic as well as the sporting arena. They also have formidable cricket, hockey, basketball and football teams, who have already won many major titles in Qatar.
