Big wins for Nalanda and Joes

Here are the results of the end of an exciting week of Singer Schools U17 Division 01 second round matches.

St. Josephs College, Colombo vs Thurstan College, Colombo

A comprehensive victory for St. Josephs College, Colombo  beating Thurtan College, Colombo in the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 Group ‘T’ second round match played at Thurstan Grounds on 3rd of August.

The Joes won the toss and elected to bat first and put up a decent total on board scoring 260 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at 50 overs. Dinal Anuradha scored 78 runs while Dineth Jayakody and Johanne de Silva scored 67 and 61 runs respectively. Bawantha Jayasinghe chipped in with 3 wickets for an expensive 70 runs.

Chasing down the target Thurstan College managed to score 192 runs for the loss of 8 wickets completing 50 overs and fell short of 68 runs. Prasanna Pushpakumara scored an unbeaten 46 runs while Ranesh Lakshan scored 36 runs and Sasindu Vaidyasekara scored 28 runs. Klenn Kalyarathne, Lakshan Gamage, Dineth Jayakody shared two wickets each.

The lads from Maradana won the match by 68 runs.

ST. JOSEPH’S WON BY 68 RUNS


Nalanda College, Colombo vs Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa

Nalanda College won easily against Price of Wales in the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 Group ‘P’ match played at Prince of Wales ground on 04th of August.

The home team POW won the toss and opted to bat first managing to score only 138 runs all out in 38.2. Vinuja Ranpul scored 28 runs and Pasindu Pathum scored 26 runs which were the highest for the home team boys. Chamodya Rajapakshe grabbed 4 wickets for just 22 runs.

Chasing down an easy target Nalanda scored 138 runs for the  loss of 3 wickets in 34 overs. Lakshan Kashyapa scored a half century while Moksha Sankalpa scored 35 runs not out.

Nalanda won by 7 wickets.

St. Johns College, Jaffna vs Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa

A remarkable win for the boys from Jaffna when they beat Joseph Vaz College at their home ground in Wennappuwa in the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 Group ‘R’ match on 03rd August.

St. Johns after winning the toss elected to bat first and managed to score only 113 runs all out in 42.3 overs. T.D. Polyandaew was the highest scorer for the lads from Jaffna by scoring 36 runs.  Kanishka Gamage took 3 wickets for 24 runs while Tharusha Fernando and Senura Fernando shared 2 wickets each.

Chasing down a small target wasn’t easy for the Wennappuwa boys when they were bowled out for 80 runs in 31.2 overs. Johnathan Prashan took 3 wickets for 15 runs while T. Dinosh and K. Tishan shared 2 wickets each.

St. Johns won by 33 runs.

ST JOHNS WON BY 33 RUNS


St. Thomas College, Matara vs St. Anthonys College, Kandy

Another win for the boys from the Hill capital when St. Anthonys College, Kandy met St. Thomas College, Matara in the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 Group ‘V’ match at Matara Uyanwatta Stadium on 03rd of August.

After winning the toss the visiting team invited the home team to bat first and bowled them out for just 107 runs in 36.4 overs.  Nimnaka Jayathilake and Sajith Irundika demolished the batting line up by taking 4 wickets for 12 runs and 3 wickets for 30 runs respectively.

It was an easy chase down for the visitors from the Hill country when they scored 108 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 26 overs. M Kamil scored an unbeaten 48 runs while Gihan Ebert scored 30 runs not out. Woshitha Athsara took 2 wickets for 14 runs.

St. Anthonys won the match by 6 wickets.
