Galle and Colombo showed great fightbacks with the bat against Kandy and Jaffna in their respective encounters of the four-day competition of the inaugural National Super League, which continued for the third day at Galle and Hambantota International Cricket stadiums.

Kandy vs Galle

Galle resumed day three on 185/3 on a batting friendly surface in Galle, adding another 203 runs to their overnight score and losing 5 more wickets before the rain prompted umpires to call stumps early on day three.

Waduge, who remained unbeaten on 100 at stumps on day two, lost his wicket in the morning session after adding 28 more runs to his tally. His knock of 128 runs came off 211 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

Suminda Lakshan (60*) and Heshan Hettiarachchi (33*) remained unbeaten at the crease after adding a 91-run partnership for the 9th wicket. The seamers Nipun Ransika, Asitha Fernando and off-spinning all-rounder Sahan Arachchige picked up 2 wickets each for Kandy.

After being 2 wickets down for just 3 runs at overnight, Colombo managed to recover nicely with the bat, posting 309 runs for 8 wickets at the close of play on day three.

Sri Lanka Test discard Roshen Silva made a strong case with the bat scoring unbeaten 147 runs off 202 balls with 16 fours to his name. The left arm spinner Dunith Wellalage was the pick of the bowlers for Jaffna as he bagged 2 wickets for 93 runs.
