Dhananjaya Lakshan’s terrific knock for Galle headlines day two of the four-day encounter between Dambulla and Galle of the National Super League 4-day tournament played today (11th March) at Dambulla.

After being 332/5 at stumps on day one, Dambulla finished their first inning on a strong note posting a mammoth score of 418.

The skipper Minod Bhanuka top-scored for Dambulla aggregating 163 runs off 213 balls with 18 fours. The spinners Chanaka Ruwansiri (4/62) and Akila Dananjaya (3/98) shone with the ball sharing 7 wickets between them.

In reply, Galle also showed a dominant batting display as they ended the second day’s play at 225/2. The seaming all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan top-scored with an unbeaten 93 runs off 150 balls with 11 fours while Hashan Dumindu remained unbeaten at the middle with him after scoring 59 runs off 154 balls with 5 fours.

After being stuck at 28/4, Colombo managed to rescue the innings to some extent adding 190 runs for the remaining 6 wickets as they made 218 runs in 73.5 overs.

The seaming all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka top-scored with unbeaten 80 runs off 139 balls with 3 fours and a six. Lakshitha Manasinghe supported him well at the other end chipping in with 53 runs off 85 balls with 7 fours.

The speedster Asitha Fernando and off-spinner Ashian Daniel picked up 3 wickets each for Kandy.

Kandy began their second innings 23 runs ahead and posted 94/3 at the end of the second day’s play. The skipper Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten at the crease scoring 48 runs off 74 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. The off-spinner Manasinghe dismissed all three wickets fell in Kandy’s innings.
