Sri Lankan veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga sharing his views through his YouTube channel said that Dhananjaya Lakshan can become next Angelo Mathews for Sri Lanka.

Praising the skills possessed by young seamer Lakshan, Malinga said that he is the in-swing bowler in the country right now.

“The best thing I saw in him is that he is Sri Lanka’s best in-swing bowler at present. He has the natural ability to swing the ball into the right-handers.” Malinga said.

Malinga went on to say that though many people rate Lakshan as a good T20 player, he reckons Lakshan can be very valuable in the 50-over format as well.

Since Lakshan is very capable of bowling with the new ball, Malinga asks the team management to use him with the new ball in English conditions which are conducive to swing bowling.

“If you see at international level, most successful bowlers are those who mastered the in-swinger. Lakshan should be given the opportunity to bowl with the new ball to better utilise his ability to swing the ball, especially in England,” he added.

“Lakshan has the potential to play the role which Angelo Mathews played at his peak as an all-rounder. He needs proper guidance and the opportunity to perform in ideal situations to achieve his goals and I think he will be successful in this series,” Malinga further said.
