D.S and Mahanama are geared up to face off in the Battle of the Golds

The two renowned schools in Colombo are set for an epic encounter as the 18th Battle of the Gold will be held on the 29th and 30th of March at the SSC Cricket Grounds in Colombo between D.S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College. The Aravinda De Silva Trophy one-day encounter will be held on the 21st of April at the SSC Cricket Grounds, Colombo.

The official press conference for the match took place yesterday, on the 20th of March, with the presence of legendary Aravinda de Silva, alongside the principals of the two schools, captains, coaches, Old Boys’ Associations, media representatives, and match sponsors.

Former Cricket Captain Aravinda de Silva, who spoke at the press conference, said,

“I would like to advice both schools to make sure we play the game in the right spirit and maintain the kind of discipline we will want to pass on to the future of both schools.”

This year, D.S. Senanayake College will be captained by Gaviru Senhas, while Duvindu Ranatunga will lead Mahanama College.

“In the past, our teams weren’t able to qualify to the group we are in today, but with the greatest effort put by the team and coaches this year, we are here ranking number 1 in our respective two-day tournament group” said the principle of D.S. Senanayake College Mr. Sampath Weeragoda while addressing the press last evening.

D.S. Senanayake College will be the host team this time.

The Principle of Mahanama College, Mr. Prabhath Withanage, who spoke at the press conference, said,

“Both schools in the past have been able to produce national-level players, and this year, we are looking forward to an epic encounter while still maintaining the brotherhood and sportsmanship between the two schools.”

The two-day match between the two teams is scheduled for March 29th and 30th, while the one-day match is set for April 21st, both to be held at SSC Cricket Grounds in Colombo.
