Colts make a perfect start

Colts Cricket Club made the perfect start in their attempt to win the SLC Premier limited overs knock out tournament when they defeated Badureliya Cricket Club by a convincing margin of seven wickets in the Group ‘A’ opening encounter worked off at Havelock Park yesterday.

In fact this opening contest between the two teams turned out to be a complete mismatch as the home side displayed their all round cricketing prowess in great style to clear their initial hurdle with more than 35 overs to spare.

Colts CC’s dominance over their opponents was so much that the entire match lasted for only 51 overs with Badureliya CC putting up a dismal batting performance to be all out for a mere 81 runs after been put into bat.

The Badureliya CC innings lasted for just 30.3 overs with only Ruwinda Sharmein (14) and Sameera Weerasinghe (16) managing to enter double figures against the star studded Colts CC bowling attack.

Opening bowler and Sri Lanka all rounder Thisara Perera caused the initial damage while claiming three early wickets while conceding just 15 runs during his hostile opening spell.

All rounder Dilruwan Perera later destroyed the Badureliya CC batting as he ripped through the middle order with a deadly spell of bowling to return outstanding figures of three wickets for 16 runs.

Badureliya CC would have been bowled out for even a much less total if not for the 30 extras conceded by the Colts CC bowlers through wides and no balls.

However Colts CC still managed to wrap up the game before lunch as they cruised to 82 for 3 wickets from just 12.3 overs with dashing opener Kusal Janith Perera smashing 41 runs from 38 deliveries inclusive of two sixes and five boundaries.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 20 while Imesh Udayanga captured all three wickets for Badureliya CC conceding just 14 runs.

Badureliya CC: 81 in 30.3 overs (Thisara Perera 3/15, Dilruwan Perera 3/16)

Colts CC: 82-3 in 12.3 overs (Kusal Perera 41, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 20 n. o, Imesh Udayanga 3/14)
