The Colombo District Under 21 Zonal Cricket Tournament organized by the Colombo District Cricket Association is back on track after a long lapse of over two decades with an all new revamped format.
Colombo is home to much cricketing talent and the Colombo District Cricket Association intends to bring out the available talent to the national stage. The players who leave school after playing in their U19 season will be provided the opportunity to go further forward without being directly routed to the club division. Due to the heavy competition in the premiere club division, the juniors are left unseen giving them less or very little exposure to the national level. This has resulted in disappointment and frustration that has led to many giving up the sport. Also perhaps a loss of national talent.
The Executive Committee of Colombo District Cricket Association having had a serious view on the matter, as an immediate measure decided to conduct a Under 21 Inter Zonal Cricket Tournament annually, confining the participation to the drop outs from Colombo District. Accordingly nominations were called from the schools and the clubs and prompt response was received to this effect.
The Participating Teams will be as follows:
1. Colombo South as COLOMBO GLADIATORS
2. Colombo South Outer as COLOMBO VIKINGS
3. Colombo North as COLOMBO HAWKS
4. Colombo North Outer as COLOMBO EAGLE
For the purpose of identification each team will be named as given above. The tournament shall be staged on a round robin basis and the duration of each match shall be of two (02) days, restricting the first innings play of each team to be 60 overs only. The four teams would be managed by qualified coaches from the Sri Lanka Cricket.
