Galle Gladiators have finally opened their account in the win column of the table as they defeated the Colombo Kings in the 14th match of Lanka Premier League 2020.
Colombo Kings wanted to try out their strength in batting first so they won the toss. Colombo made one change to their line up as they rested speedster Dushmantha Chameera for this game and played Dhammika Prasad in his place. The Gladiators handed debuts for the fast bowler Nuwan Thushara and top-order batsman Sahan Arachchige.
Rejuvenated Colombo bowlers seal their fourth win
A troubled start for Colombo Kings
Colombo did not get the kind of start they have been getting at the top of the order as both their openers were undone by the end of the powerplay with only 46 runs on the board. The regular big-scorers for Colombo Dinesh Chandimal, Laurie Evans, and Adre Russell failed to fire today.
Amir – The wrecking ball
Amir ran riot in the Colombo batting line up and left them limbless as he picked 5 wickets for just 26 runs. He delivered 14 dots in his spell which gave Galle the spirit they lacked to see their first win.
Ali, Dickwella and Tharanga usher Viiking to semifinals
He was well complimented by Lakshan Sandakan who looked impressive in the past two games. Sandakan bagged 3 wickets including the biggies, Andre Russell and Angelo Mathews.
A brief comeback from Bell-Drummond
Daniel Bell-Drummond, the English batsman who was struggling to get going in the tournament found a bit of form as he struck a fighting 44 runs off 36 deliveries. Bell-Drummond came out to bat at No. 3 for Colombo and saw the other end crumble in the course of his inning, but held out long enough to give them a decent score to bowl at.
Isuru Udana came late down the order and fired a couple of sixes to push the Kings to a total of 171 runs in the 20 overs.
Galle off the blocks with fire
Galle Gladiators got off to a marvelous start as their openers posted a 97-run stand inside 11 overs. Danushka Gunathilaka kept riding on his fine form as the southpaw scored a decent 38 off 28 while his opening partner, Ahsan Ali smacked 56 runs to parachute the Galle Gladiators inches before the target.
Bhanuka finds form
The skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa who had a torrid tournament so far finally got some runs against his name. Bhanuka scored 37 runs and remained unbeaten as he saw his team taste their first win in the tourney.
