Sri Lanka Cricket has put into motion a plan to create what they call a “Brain Center” in the Island, which will be equipped with the most cutting edge technology available in analytics and statistics.

“We plan to get footage of all games played around the world. This will allow national selectors and coaches to analyze players before every game or tournament.” President of SLC Thilanga Sumathipala said to the press earlier today.

The unit and the project as a whole is to be overseen by Aravinda De Silva who is expected to be aided by Sanath Jayasuriya, Head Coach Graham Ford and newly appointed High Performance Manager Simon Willis.

Mr. Sumathipala identified the establishment of such a facility as a key responsibility of the current cricket board and hopes to get it up and running within the next 2 years.

“We have allocated funds for it and are making it one of our chief responsibilities. The software has been outsourced, we are working on the hardware now” he continued.

He went on to say that the approximate cost of the endeavor is expected to be in the range of one hundred thousand US Dollars.

Mr. Sumathipala also spoke of the MOU that is expected to be signed between the SSC and SLC regarding the refurbishment of the SSC Grounds.

“The SLC headquarters are at SSC- so SLC and SSC have formed a committee to look into what we can do to develop the SSC.”

He went on to say that they are looking to put together a 10 year business plan and are looking to sign a MOU regarding this in the coming week.

According to Mr. Sumathipala, the chief aim is to make SSC “a futuristic ground at the heart of the city”.

“This is one of our top class Test venues. The world is moving towards floodlit Test matches, with pink balls, so we would like to see that [in the future]”

The final proposal for the project is expected to be completed in the next 6 months.
