Bloomfield beat Tamil Union

97

An unbeaten century by Madawa Warnapura and a brilliant bowling effort by their seam and spin combination sealed a comfortable 103 run win for Bloomfield against Tamil Union at P Sara Oval today.

Warnapura was unbeaten on 110, a calm and a composed knock as batting first Bloomfield amassed 272 for the loss of eight wickets and had host bowled out for 169 runs in the 40th over.  His second limited over century came off 112 balls and included 10 boundaries and a six. Warnapura, the son of Sri Lanka’s first test skipper Bandula Warnapura was stranded on 96 with six balls to spare and scored 14 runs off the last over to reach a fluent century.

Chasing  a challenging total of 273 to win, Tamil Union got off to a flyer with openers Ashen Silva (35) and Pabasara Waduge (28) putting on a rapid 60 off eight overs but their depature in successive overs hurt them deeply.

TN Sampath however scored a fighting half century but could not prevent a huge thrashing as Bloomfield bowlers feasted on a poor shot selection by the hosts.

Imran Khan K Suraj Randiv (2) Chathura Randunu (20) Vishwa Fernando (2) andAnoj Katiparachchi (2)  took two wickets each.
