Pavan, Chamindu, Daniel script series win for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Emerging Team registered a 5-wicket win over Bangladesh Emerging Team in the 3rd One Day encounter to clinch the three-match series, 2-1 in Dambulla.

Sri Lanka Emerging Team skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe won the toss for the first time in the series and opted to bowl first.

Parvez Hossain and Prittom Kumar opened the batting for the visitors. They provided a solid start, putting on 57 runs for the first wicket before left-arm seamer Nipun Premaratne dismissed the former for 32 runs.

The Sri Lankans kept the pressure on with the ball to grab two more quick wickets to push the visitors onto the backfoot at 83/3.

However, the skipper Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shahadat Hossain revived Bangladesh’s innings with a 67-run stand for the 4th wicket. But Sri Lanka fought back hard to create a chaotic period in the middle as the visitors lost 7 wickets for 73 runs to be bowled out for a modest score of 223.

The seaming all-rounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe and off-spinner Ashian Daniel starred with the ball for the hosts, picking up 3 wickets each.

Sri Lanka opened the batting with Sohan de Livera and Shevon Daniel in the run-chase, but the former didn’t trouble the scorers as he was trapped in front for a duck in the very first over of the innings.

Daniel and No.3 batter Pavan Rathnayake rescued the innings, putting on an 81-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Bangladesh seamer Ripon Mondol struck for the second time to dismiss Daniel for 26 runs.

Rathnayake was then joined by Navod Paranavithana at the middle, and the duo added a match-defining 81-run stand for the 3rd wicket, which set the tone for a comfortable win for the hosts.

Rathnayake played a blistering knock, which turned the game in favour of Sri Lanka. He amassed 85 runs off 56 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate 151.78.

The first four-day game between the sides will be played from 25th to 28th October at the same venue.
