Ayana Siriwardana century propels Isipathana

Ayana Siriwardana’s heroics with the bat guided Isipathana College to a commanding position against Vidyartha College, Kandy in their Singer-cup traditional game which began today in Peradeniya.

The visitors posted a mammoth 329 for 9 wickets in 77 overs as right-handed middle order batsman and Vice-captain Ayana Siriwardana scored a splendid 134 while Leshan Amarasinghe remained unbeaten on 68. Isuru Prabodha and Nipuna Kumarasiri shared four wickets for Vidyartha at close of play.

Maris Stella College vs Thurstan College

Ashan Fernando together with skipper Sachindu Colombage guided Maris Stella College to a formidable first innings total as they ended their innings on 255 against the much fancied Thurstan College in a Group D encounter which began today at Thurstan grounds.

Right-arm quick Charana Nanayakkara captured 3 scalps while Kusal Adithya contributed with a 3 wicket haul for the home team. In reply, the Thurstanites lost four quick wickets for 57 runs as the visitors ended the opening day in a strong position.

Prince of Wales’ College vs Mahanama College

The Cambrians won the toss and racked up 296 as they were bowled out inside 76 overs in their group B game against Mahanama College which started today at Bloomfield grounds.

Both Sandun Fernando and Avindu Fernando top scored with 80s for the visitors while Vihan Mudalige claimed 3 wickets for the home team. In reply the hosts lost a wicket for 48 runs at stumps.
