The second unofficial Test between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and Australia ‘A’ commenced today (21st June) at Hambantota.

Sri Lankan skipper Kamindu Mendis won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first on a batting friendly surface at Hambantota.

The wicket-keeper batter Minod Bhanuka and Lahiru Udara opened the batting for Sri Lanka but their stay at the crease was restricted to just 12 runs as the former was dismissed by Mark Steketee for 7 in the 4th over of the innings.

Mendis who came to bat at Number 3 also didn’t contribute much with the bat as Steketee struck again to dismiss the Sri Lankan skipper for just 14 runs.

Udara managed to steady the Sri Lankan innings, building two half-century stands with Nuwanidu Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrma.

The left-handed duo Nipun Dananjaya and Sahan Arachchige strengthened the hosts’ innings building a crucial 124-run stand for the 6th wicket as Sri Lanka ‘A’ ended the first day’s play at 330/9.

Dananjaya top scored with a knock of 96 runs while Arachchige contributed with 61 runs. Australian opening fast bowlers Scott Boland and Mark Steketee picked up 4 wickets each for the visitors.
