Asalanka to lead Sri Lanka in ICC U19 World Cup 2016

The Sri Lanka under 19 squad for the ICC Youth World Cup 2016 has been named by the Sri Lanka Cricket junior selectors. 

Sri Lanka have been drawn in group B alongside Pakistan, Afghanistan and Canada. They will commence their campaign on 28th January against Canada.

Richmondite Charith Asalanka will lead the Lankan outfit while Anandian Sammu Ashan will act as the deputy. Sri Lanka recently lost the final against India in their Tri-nation tournament which worked out in Sri Lanka. Most of the selected players were involved in the Triangular tournament apart of Charana Nanayakkara of Thurstan College. Jehan Daniel of St. Joseph’s College is the youngest player in the squad as he is still 16 years old.

None of these players participated in the ICC Youth World Cup 2014 in UAE under the captaincy of current Sri Lanka Test opener, Kusal Mendis.

Sri Lanka has never won a ICC Youth World Cup as this will be the 11th running of the tournament since it began in 1988. ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016, which will be held across eight venues in four Bangladesh cities from 27th January to 14th February 2016.
