Sri Lanka cricket are currently having discussions with Allan Border for the post of consultant coach, ahead of the 2015 ICC World Cup an SLC official told Ceylon Today
SLC’s discussions with former Australia World Cup-winning captains, Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh, hasn’t been successful for the position prompting them to turn to Allan Border, the SLC official said.
“We let Marvan (Atapattu) to decide about the coaching staff since he is the Head Coach of the team, “said SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga when contacted by Ceylon Today.
Meanwhile, SLC is looking for a fielding coach and mentor too and they are expected to leave the mentor position out if they are successful in roping in a consulting coach. Trevor Penny (former Sri Lanka fielding coach) and Simon Wills from Kent are said to be the contenders for the fielding coach position.
Selections of coaching staff are conducted by a committee headed by Asanga Senevirathne which includes Head Coach Marvan Atapattu and Chairman of selectors, Sanath Jayasuriya.
