Amila Aponso to migrate to the USA

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner, Amila Aponso, is reported to be moving to the United States of MAerica, to play the US Minor League Cricket Tournament while trying to build a career in the country.

Aponso confirmed the news to ThePapare.com and said he will be making the shift soon. The left-arm orthodox spinner has been named in the Atlanta Fire team for the pre-draft of the Minor League Cricket Tournament.

The 27-year-old played 9 ODIs and 3 T20Is for Sri Lanka, making his debut in 2016. He last played international cricket in 2018 and since has been a top performer in the domestic tournaments while leading the Ragama Cricket Club from time to time. 

Aponso was a steady riser within the Sri Lankan system having represented the country in U15s, U17s, U19, U23, Sri Lanka Emerging and Sri Lanka A teams. He was among the few left-arm orthodox spinners in the Domestic system with international colours.

Alongside Aponso, Sri Lankans Shehan Jayasuriya and Shehan Fernando will also be playing in the league. 29-year-old Jayasuriya played 30 international games for Sri Lanka while Fernando (28) represented the country at U19 level. Fernando is the son of present USA U19 selector and former Sri Lanka national selector Sajith Fernando.
