The tournament kicked off today at 8.40 a.m. in two venues Bogambara & Pallekelle which was scheduled to happen dividing 30 schools in to 8 groups.
A decider for the cup quarter finals happened in Group B where Kingswood College played against Dharmaraja College. It was a repeat of the Central Province tournament game which ended up as draw. Kingswood kept on attacking while Dharmaraja held their defence throughout the game while both the teams had opportunities to score but poor ball handling costed them both as the game was drawn nil all. However Kingswood got through to the Cup quarter finals with points scored in the Maliyadeva College game being greater than that of Dharmaraja.
St.Peters College were the favourites of group C for day 01. They played their last game for the day against Thurstan College and thrashed them from the very first minute. St. Peters easily walked into the Cup quarter finals winning the game 50-0.
The boys from Mount Lavania; Science College showcased some speedy rugby as usual throughout the day. All 12 of them were extra ordinary and the two speedsters in the corners kept on ticking the score board for Science. They got through to the Cup quarter finals by making Prince of Wales College helpless in their final game for the day one. The score read 24-0.
