Akalanka Ganegama too hot for Tamil Union

36 year old former Sri Lankan fast bowler Akalanka Ganegama bowled a dream spell to skittle Tamil Union out for 120. He bowled 16 overs picking up 5/35 as the Tamil Union batsmen struggled to cope with the sideways movement.

Chaminda Bandara and Chanaka Komasaru picked up two wickets apiece to give good support to Ganegama while Jeevan Mendis top scored with 32 for Tamil Union.

English Test cap Nick Compton with over 11,000 first class runs debuted for Ports Authority and had a good start to his stint in Sri Lanka when he hit a solid half century at the top of the order. Dinuk Wickramanayke’s off spinner’s yielded four late wickets for Tamil Union but Ports Authority were well in control when stumps were drawn.

CCC made 273 all out in their own den on the back of half centuries from Lasith Abeyratne and Ashan Priyanjan.

Wicket keeper batsman Abeyratne was unfortunate to miss out on a century by 4 runs when he nicked behind off Lahiru Jayaratne.

NCC vs Army SC

Army SC made a bold reply of 92/0 after they bowled out NCC for 224 earlier in the day. Lakshitha Madushan raced to an unbeaten half century while his partner Navod Ilukawatta was unbeaten on 29*.

Earlier in the day, experienced Army SC fast bowlers Nuwan Liyanapathirana and Janith Silva shared five wickets between them to restrict the NCC first innings total to 224. Angelo Perera hit a fighting 80 but he didn’t get a lot of support apart their tail who wagged making almost 100 runs for the last four wickets.
