Asian International School and Bishop’s College emerged triumphant in the Triumvirate triangular regatta that was worked off at the Colombo Rowing Club a short while ago.

The second installment of Triumvirate; the triangular regatta between the schools of Asian International School, Gateway College and Bishop’s College came alive at the waters of Beira this afternoon amidst the fanfare masses that made their way to rowing club to cheer their teams.

The oarsman of AIS and Gateway took to the waters to mark the start for the regatta in the B Sculls. It was disappointment for the AIS crew in the opening race where Nadun Hettiarachchi lost out to Gateway’s Ramindu Delwala by a second having celebrated before hand.

The AIS rowers however took control of the Beira right away from the next race with the A Pairs winning the race clocking 3.59 minutes while the Gateway pair came in twenty one second later than the AIS pair Yuvin Wickremarathna and Khaizer Ahamed.

Bishop’s College started their regatta account for 2015 with a comprehensive win in the Girl’s A Scull clocking 4.42 minutes. Thavisha Attanayaka brought the Bishopians the first taste of victory while finishing in second was Gateway’s Sarith Ratnayaka and in third was AIS’s Nelushi Jayawardena who came a minute after the winner.

There w no clear contest for either Bishop’s College in the Girls races or for Asian International School in the Boys races as both teams ended up finishing at least ten to twenty seconds earlier than their counterparts. AIS’s skipper Champaka Edirimanna and Ujitha Henanayaka got the honors in the B Double Scull in the Boys race and Bishop’s College walked away with the win in the A Double Scull in the Girl’s category.

Towards the final stages of the regatta it was the decisive races of the Fours. The B four of the Boys saw the top notches of both Gateway and AIS rowing their way to the latter end of Beira for the races to commence. With a minute having elapsed as both crews took the turn on the far wide, it was evident as to who would walk away with the win. The AIS crossed the last bow with a timing of 3.55 while the Gateway crew came 23 seconds later. It was nothing different in the A Fours but this time around Gateway bettered their timings trailing by 18 seconds. AIS finished with a impressive timing of 3.49 minutes.

The Girl’s four was again another easy win for the Bishopians who finished with a timing of 4.31 minutes had enough time row the boat to the pier till the Gateway crew came in after a lapse of almost 50 seconds.

There were three exhibition races that were held and among them, the highlight was the combined fours race that had rowers from different crews teaming up for a race. This exhibited the bond between the three schools giving indications that the triangular will continue to exist in the years to come.

With Asian International School winning 6 out of the 7 races in the Boys category, they walked away with the Boys title and Bishops College retained their title winning all of the Girls races.
