Air Force demolishes Colts to book final birth

Air Force handsomely beat Colts by 125 runs and will meet Navy in the final of the women’s limited over cricket tournament on 6th August 2014.

Winning the toss and electing to field Colombo Colts women began brightly dismissing Air Force women’s opening batswomen Yasoda Mendis in the second over of the game for just 5 runs. Air Force was reduced to 40 for the loss of 2 wickets when Nobet Ide clean bowled Anushka Sanjeewani for 4 runs off 12 balls. 

However from then on it was one-way traffic as the ladies from the Air Force scored runs at will as Chamari Atapattu top scored with 79 runs off 80 ball with 11 fours, Chamari Polgampola managed a steady 54 off 104 balls with 4 boundaries and Dilani Manodara scored 31 off 40 balls with 4 boundaries to help Air Force notch up 233 for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 50 over’s.

Colombo Colts women’s team got off to the worst possible start losing 6 quick wickets for just 56 runs. Hansima Karunarathne and D Wickramanayake looked to revive the Colts innings somewhat as they built a 30 run partnership. However as D Wickramanayake lost her wicket to Sripali Weerakkody for 10 runs off 39 balls and Hansima Karunarathne was dismissed for a fighting 30 off 107 balls. Colombo Colts Women managed only 108 runs for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of their allotted 50 over’s as their hopes off meeting Navy women’s team in the final were all but gone.  

Navy women will meet the Air Force women on the 6th of August 2014 to battle it out for the women’s limited over cricket tournament trophy.
