International Rowers Converge on Colombo Rowing Club

360

The Colombo Rowing Club (CRC) is all geared up to host the 73rd FEARA/ARAE International Regatta as rowers from six different nations are set to gather and compete from the 11th to the 13th of December 2014.

The regatta is being held in conjunction with the CRC’s 150th jubilee celebrations, and is under the auspices of the Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE) and the Far East Amateur Rowing Association (FEARA).  Over 150 competitors are expected to compete with the highlight races being held in the ARAE Men’s and Women’s categories with races also being held in the FEARA Masters category (Over 35) and the FEARA Super Masters category (Over 50)

With rowing steadily picking up in popularity as a sport in Sri Lanka, an international regatta is always an important occasion for the rowing community. The Colombo Rowing Club last hosted this event in 1997 and the growth of rowing in Sri Lanka since that period has been quite substantial. With crews coming down from India, Pakistan, Singapore and Dubai, some high quality rowing is expected over the duration of these three days. India is set to be the most represented visiting country with six rowing clubs sending down competitors for the events.
