India clinched the Gold medal in the Women’s Cricket Competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan after defeating Sri Lanka in the final. Sri Lanka had to settle for the Silver medal, which marks the country’s first medal at this edition of the Asian Games.
Having won the toss, India opted to bat first and produced a dominant batting display, posting a massive 216 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The total is the highest ever recorded in the history of the Women’s Cricket Competition at the Asian Games.
Smriti Mandhana led the charge for India with a sensational knock of 79 runs off 45 balls, smashing 5 fours and 7 sixes. Richa Ghosh added a valuable 49 runs, while Shafali Verma contributed 48 as India put Sri Lanka’s bowling attack under sustained pressure throughout the innings.
