Sri Lanka registered a thrilling victory over Bangladesh in the 10th match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026, played today (6th September) in Dubai, securing their third consecutive win of the tournament and a place in the Semi Finals.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu opted to bowl first, with one change to the playing XI. Top-order batter Vishmi Gunarathne came into the side, replacing right-arm seamer Kawya Kavindi as Sri Lanka strengthened their batting lineup.
Bangladesh posted 114 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Sri Lanka’s bowlers producing a disciplined effort.
Left-arm spinner Chamodi Praboda was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 21 runs. The performance marked her career-best bowling figures in T20Is. Fellow left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari also made an impact, taking 2 wickets for 22 runs.
Chasing 115 for victory, Sri Lanka found themselves in serious trouble as they lost half of their side for just 44 runs inside the first 10 overs.
However, Harshitha Samarawickrama stood tall under pressure to produce a match-winning effort and guide Sri Lanka over the line. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 37 balls, striking 4 fours and 2 sixes, as Sri Lanka secured a hard-fought victory.
