Sri Lanka Women’s ‘A’ produced another dominant performance to defeat New Zealand Women’s ‘A’ by 56 runs in the second unofficial T20I and clinch the three-match series with one game remaining.
After winning the toss, the hosts elected to bat first and posted a competitive total of 152 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne led the charge with a composed unbeaten knock of 57 runs off 49 deliveries, striking four boundaries and two sixes during her innings.
Despite Sri Lanka’s strong batting effort, New Zealand bowlers Jess Watkin and Hannah Rowe managed to keep things under control in the middle overs, claiming two wickets apiece for the visitors.
In response, New Zealand Women’s ‘A’ struggled against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack and were bundled out for just 96 runs. Off-spinner Dewmi Vihanga was the standout performer with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 19 runs, while left-arm spinner Chamudi Praboda provided excellent support with figures of 2 for 15.
