The 54th Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championship concluded successfully today (3rd November) at the Mahaweli Grounds, Embilipitiya, bringing an exciting three-day meet to a close with several thrilling events on the final day. 

The third and final day of the prestigious junior athletics championship witnessed the completion of numerous track events, with young athletes from schools across the island producing impressive performances. 

In the hurdles events, P.D.J.I. Jayasuriya of Hanwella Rajasinghe College emerged victorious in the Boys Under-15 80m Hurdles, while S. Hewavitharana of Hillwood College, Kandy claimed the title in the Girls Under-14 75m Hurdles. 

The Boys Under-14 Hurdles title was secured by R.P.V.A. Wijerathne of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. Meanwhile, C.D. Kariyawasam clinched first place in the Boys Under-13 70m Hurdles, while R.D.S. Denuwan won the corresponding Girls event. 

In the 400m races, G. Aloka of Lyceum International School, Wattala produced a fine run to win the Girls Under-15 event, while Ashain Thevarapperuma of Gateway College, Colombo triumphed in the Boys Under-15 category. 

The Girls Under-14 400m event was won by S. Mudali, while R. Thenuka of Maris Stella College, Negombo emerged victorious in the Boys category. 

The sprint events also delivered exciting finishes, with D. Nethmika winning the Boys Under-15 100m event, while N.R. Ekanayake secured first place in the Girls event. 

In the relay events, St. Benedict’s College, Colombo claimed the title in the Boys Under-15 400m relay, while Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena won the Girls Under-15 400m relay.
