Six matches of the Singer Schools Under 19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island.
President’s College, Kotte vs Isipathana College, Colombo
Traditional fixture between President’s College and Isipathana College saw 3 innings and 24 wickets in its opening day at Colts Cricket grounds. Isipathana invited the opposition to bat first and was quickly rewarded as their bowlers, particularly Isipathana captain Madushika Sandaruwan, decimated the President’s College batting line up inside 29 overs.
In reply to the opposition’s 119, Isipathana also failed with the bat as they couldn’t gain a significant first innings lead as off spinner Thashika Nirmal’s 4-fer restricted Isipathana to 130.
President’s College were 92/4 in their second innings at stumps.

Taking matters to his own hands, Dangalle turned up with the ball too picking up 2 wickets to trouble Dharmapala who ended the day on 84/5.

Batsmen from St. Thomas College, Matara launched a slow and steady batting display today at Ananda College grounds after they were put in to bat by the home team.
With the help of the Thomas duo Nipuna Ruchira and Mihisal Amoda’s half centuries, the visitors reached 205/5 to conclude a tiring day at the middle for the home team.

Group C fixture between neighbours from Moratuwa was held at Moratu Vidyalaya grounds. The visitors decided to bat first but collapsed embarrassingly to a below par 149. All-rounder Nisitha Abilash was the only one who looked assured with the bat, but he too was dismissed for 41.
Home team captain, dashing right hand bat Nishan Madushka, scored yet another crucial knock for his team before getting out for 84. The hosts were 162/6 at stumps and will hope to build a considerable first innings lead with Nadith Mischendra who is on 50*.

Lumbini College, Colombo vs Nalanda College, Colombo
Lumbini was shattered by a brilliant spell of fast bowling by under 19 National cap Chamindu Wijesinghe who grabbed 6 scalps to plummet the visitors to 44 runs in 19.1 overs at Nalanda College grounds.
Nalanda then set a 141 lead for Lumbini 2nd innings as they declared their 1st innings for 185/9 to use the final 20 overs of the day to good use. Lumbini College was staring down at an embarrassing innings defeat at the end of the day with only 8 wickets in hand, but 90 runs needed to make Nalanda bat again.

Left arm orthodox Upendra Warnakulasooriya’s 6-fer made sure St. Mary’s College crumbled to 150 in 48 overs despite Pasan Walisinghe’s fine fifty at Dharmaraja College ground after the visitors were sent in to bat by Dharmaraja captain.
The hosts concluded the day strongly as they were 203/5, leading by 53 runs with another 5 wickets in hand to march on to the final day of the match.
