The 33rd All Island School Games Athletic Championship, which was held over 5 days at the Sugathadasa Stadium concluded today (5th) crowning St Peter’s and Walala A Ratnayake College as the overall winners of the Senior Boy’s & Girl’s categories respectively.
46 new meet records were established at the competition which surely is an encouraging sign for the future of sport in the country. 25 Boy’s records were established at the meet with Royal College and St Peter’s College Colombo responsible for 5 records each. Girls were responsible for 21 records with Museus College Colombo , Lyceum International Wattala and Lyceum international Nugegoda all notching up two records each.
Day 05 Final results
St Peter’s who have reenergized their athletic contingent with the arrival of I D Premasiri as their Head athletic coach, completed a perfect year in the sport as they managed to clinch 3 major titles this year. The Peterites won the All Island Relay Carnival, Ritzbury Sir John Tarbet (Senior) Overall Boy’s Championship and today won the Overall Junior and Senior Boy’s Championship at the All Island School Games. They were also adjudged the Boy’s Relay Champions of the meet.
Peterites amazed a total of 165 points to be crowned the champions in the senior category while the traditional athletic powerhouse and the defending champions Maris Stella College had to be satisfied with a runner up finish with 88 points. Walala A Ratnayake College were placed third with 76 points.

- Second Runner-up: A Rathnayaka M.M.V. – Walala Central 76
The girl’s overall of championship was won by Walala A Ratnayake College who comfortably defended the title for yet another year. Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura was placed second with 80 points while Gateway International School, Rajagiriya who were joint second last year with Sumana Balika had slumped to third place with only 53 points to their name.

Pasindu best sprinter & the best athlete (Boy’s)
Asian Games represent Pasindu Kodikara of Maliyadeva College, who made easy work of the Boys U20 400m final in the absence of his Asian Games relay team mate and Sri Lanka’s #1 quarter miler Aruna Darshana was adjudged the best athlete at the meet for his performance of 47.45secs in the 400m. Pasindu’s run also earned him the accolade of best runner of the meet.
Randi Cooray leaps to best jumper athlete (Girl’s) award
Triple Jumper Randi Cooray of Gateway College who won the Girl’s Under 20 triple jump event with an impressive jump of 12.74m was adjudged the Girl’s best athlete of the meet. Her performance also earned her the accolade of best jumper of the meet.
Double record Rumesh take the best thrower prize
Peterite Rumesh Tharanga who claimed a meet record in the under 16 Boy’s Discuss Throw and the Javelin Throw was adjudged the best thrower of the meet for his new meet record throw of 55.88m in the Discus Throw.
Sheshan Best Hurdler for the second year running
Josephian Sheshan Dilusha Kariyawasam was adjudged the best hurdler of the meet for the second year running for his performance of 14.21secs in the U20 Boy’s 110m Hurdles.
Western province continued their dominance in the overall provincial championship as they managed to clinch the championship with a landslide victory notching up 1440 points. Central was placed second with 505 points while North Western was placed third with 376 points.
