Day two of the All Island Inter School 12 a side Rugby championship kicked off at Bogambora Stadium with the deciding quarter finals being worked off Sunday morning. Science College, Kingswood College   and St. Peter’ s College who were the favorites on day 01 failed to keep their momentum going.

The first match kicked off between Royal and Kingswood who were fighting in the Cup quarter final and Royal College walked through to the Cup semi final winning the game 12-nil. Science College beat St. Peter’s 24 -7 and St. Anthony’s College beat Trinity College 3-nil to book their spots in the semi’s and it was Isipathana  who beat Wesley 12-5 to book the final spot in the semi finals.

Kingswood College and Trinity College got themselves through to the Plate finals beating St. Peter’s and Wesley College respectively while Maliyadewa College and Ananda won their Shield semi final games defeating Prince Of Wales and Royal Panadura respectively.

The lads from Mount Lavinia; Science College scored 10 points against Royal College who only managed to accumulate a single goal which allowed the Science College boys to progress into the final. St. Anthony’s College who showcased some fascinating team work easily walked into the Cup final beating Isipathana College 14-nil.

The deciding game, the Cup final took place between Science College and St. Anthony’s College. Soon after the whistle the Antonian wing three quarter ran a splendid run towards the goal post for the first try which was followed up by a straightforward kick which gave them the early lead of 7 points. Kalindu Nandila of Science College replied to the early try by their opponents  and gave the hopes to his team. But sadly the Science fly half Priyadarshana was unable to tick the board with the extra points.

The teams kept on attacking while holding their defense throughout the game.  Both teams had opportunities to score but poor ball handling cost them both as they were unable to score in the 2nd half.  St. Anthony’s won the deciding game 7-5 against the favorites from day 01; Science College.

It was quite a relief and a moment of joy for the St. Anthony’s rugby fraternity to see a rugby team donning their school colors finally lifting some silverware.

Trinity College faced Kingswood College in Plate final. Trinity scored 17 points in the first half to take up the lead while Kingswood were unable to score. A few minutes after the second half break Trinity got their victory with a try which wrapped up the game at 24-nil.
