As the 7th day of the 2015 Junior Nationals Tennis tournament came to an end, there was nothing but celebrations for young Venuka Kithnul as he was crowned the winner of the boys U-10 age group this morning. Venuka beat Vichitya Nilaweera in an easy final sparing only 1 game, winning by 9 games to 1.
The girls U-16 semifinal matches were also played today and the two young players from Ladies College breezed through to the finals. Anika Seneviratne beat Janali Manamperi by 6/3, 6/4 and Medhira Samarasinghe thrashed Tarah Greig by 6/1, 6/0.
The clash between young promising star Anika and this years’ Junior Fed Cup team member Medhira was due to take place at 08.00am today at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.
In other age groups, the under 14 girls semi-finals will be played tomorrow morning; Anika Seneviratne will take on Sathi Silva, and Savini Jayasooriya will face the SSC Open U-14 runner-up Prabbudhi Perera. The four quarterfinals matches of the boys U-16 age group will also take place along with the quarters of the boys U-14 singles. The doubles matches of this age group and girls U-14 will also commence today.
All in all, today will be filled with a wide variety of matches from first round to finals, and is undoubtedly a day not to be missed.
