Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan’s excellent all-round performance helped Trinity College, Kandy to book their place in the semi-finals beating Prince of Wales College by 80 runs in their under 17 division one quarter-final fixture at R. Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.
The left-handed top-order batsman made a blistering ton in just 76 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to anchor his team to a commanding total of 269 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. Thiyagaraja Banagoban chipped in with a fluent 46. For the Cambrians, Sasanka Peiris and Jayasanka Fernando shared 5 wickets.
Chasing a mammoth target of 270 runs to win, the boys from Moratuwa were restricted to only 189. Left-arm spinner Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan and off-spinner Hasitha Boyagoda took 3 wickets apiece for the team from Kandy. Jayasanka Fernando was the top run-scorer for Prince of Wales as he made 46.
Trinity will now meet the winner of Ananda vs Thurstan quarter-final which is scheduled on 13th August at the same venue.
