Cambrians edge out Royal, Mahinda end seven year wait Singer Cup Under-17 cricket reaches knockout stage

Mahinda College, Galle advanced to the knockout stage of the Singer Cup Under-17 Division I cricket tournament after a lapse of seven years, while Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa secured their pre-quarterfinal place edging out Royal College, Colombo on run rate.

The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association finalised the pre-quarterfinal line up of the Singer Cup Under-17 Division I Cricket tournament on Thursday.

While last year runner up Trinity is the sole team from Kandy, defending champions Richmond have two teams from their home town entering the fray. Mahinda are in last 16 after a lapse of seven years.

St. Aloysius’ are the other team from Galle.

Sri Sumangala College, Panadura topped their group which included Royal College, Colombo and Prince of Wales. The group which also had Maris Stella and Dharmaraja saw Sri Sumangala, Prince of Wales and Royal ending the second round with 12 points each. The SLSCA said that Sri Sumangala and Prince of Wales were ahead according to run rate.

The SLSCA requested teams to complete their pre-quarterfinals before July 31.
