The encounter was inaugurated in 2015 by the Old Thomians’ Hockey Association Matale and Old Thomians’ Hockey Union Mount Lavinia and was held at the Edward Park Matale on the 26th of September 2015.

The opening fixture was won by the lads from Matale with a score line of 2-0. The Captains of the two teams at the Inaugural encounter were T. Wijethunga for Matale and P.R. Wanigasooriya for Mount Lavinia.
