The 28th Sri Lankan Rowing National Championship for 2013 will be conducted from 4th to 6th April 2013 on a newly developed 2000 m course at the Diyawanna Oya.

Over 300 rowers from 15 institutions will take part in the three day event, which will have Men’s and Women’s races. Coxed and coxless Fours, Double Scull, Pair and Single Scull events will be held in the Open, Over 18 and Under 18 categories. This time around the battle will be intensified with schools, universities, rowing clubs and the three defense forces  challenging each other to gain supremacy in the event.

As this is the first major regatta of the year, teams will vie to establish themselves prior to the hectic upcoming rowing season.

This is the first year that the National Rowing Championships is being conducted on the Diyawanna Oya. The newly dredged multi-lane course looks to be up to international standards, which will be a welcome change from the choppy waters of the Bolgoda Lake where it was held previously. However participants may face practical struggles due to the relative lack of facilities available.

Spectators can watch the action from the Diyawanna Park, in front of which the finishing line is conveniently located.

The event is organised by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and its main sponsor is Barthi Airtel.
