Trinity College took major honours by dominating the Royal-Trinity encounter which headed for a rain-hampered draw at Reid Avenue. For Royal, captain Helitha Withanage reached 1000 runs for the season.

Winning the toss, Royal skipper Helitha Withanage put Trinity into bat with hopes of early inroads in a delayed start at Reid Avenue. Trinity captain, Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan led from the front, scoring a fluent 65. The foundation laid by the skipper was later continued by Sri Lanka U 19 cap Hasitha Boyagoda, who dazzled with his willow amassing a scintillating century. His 139 runs braced the innings while Chanuka Bandara (46), Hasintha Jayasuriya (22) chipped in with valuable contributions, taking the visitors to 321/6 at declaration.

Being 5/0 at stumps, the hosts resumed day 2 in front of the vibrant home crowd. Pasindu Sooriyabandara’s 37 led from the front and later Helitha Withanage made a half ton. In the venture, he scaled 1000 runs for the season. His defiance braced the innings but it was evident that the task was difficult ahead for the home side. Heavens opened up again in the afternoon and as play resumed, the visitors took charge and bowled out Royal for 212. Without offering a follow on, Trinity commenced their second essay and at the end of play, they stood at 105/3. Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan, who took a 5 wicket haul with the ball, made an unbeaten half ton, his second for the game.

Maris Stella College vs Gurukula College

Spearheaded by Lasith Croosepulle’s 83, Maris Stella made 205 before curbing Gurukula for 144 runs.  In the first essay, Pruthuvi Rusara claimed 6 for 45 for Gurukula, chiefly halting the Maris Stella charge. For Maris Stella, it was Pasindu Ushetti with his 4 for 50 that helped the home side to subdue the visitors at 144. At the close of play, Maris Stella were on 76/2 for their second innings.
