Maris Stella College and Richmond College register 1st innings wins in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament matches which concluded today.    

Maris Stella College, Negombo vs St. Aloysius College, Galle

Maris Stella resuming day two on 101/3, went on to score a challenging 246/7 for the lads from Galle. Maris Stella declared the innings with an advantage of 101 runs as they took control in the afternoon session in the group ‘B’ encounter.

Right-hander Roshen Fernando was the hero for the visitors with a remarkable 120* off 153 balls that included 10 boundaries. He partnered with Kevin Perera for a superb 141 stand for the 4th wicket as Kevin stroked 79 valuable runs to trouble the home team.

Niduka Malsith was the stand out bowler for Aloysius with a five-wicket haul. However, the hosts had a daunting task ahead of them to save the game and they did just that, in the second essay, to claim a draw.

Richmond College, Galle vs St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa

Needing 246 to secure 1st innings points, the lads from Wennappuwa never got going as the wickets fell at regular intervals. Yohan Peiris was the only batsman who went past 50 as they folded for a disappointing 183 in the group ‘C’ encounter which concluded at Surray Village grounds.

Off spinner Sandun Mendis was excellent with the ball in hand as he took 3 crucial wickets to restrict their counter parts.

After gaining 1st innings points in the game, Richmond College settled for a draw as they batted the remining overs with relative ease. Dilum Sudeera, Adithya Siriwardane and Akash Kavinda scored half-tons to end the second day in favour of Richmond College.
