West Indies A makes a bold reply against Sri Lanka A

Number 3 batsmen, Shimron Hetmyer made a sparkling 94 as West Indies A posted 183 for 4 at stumps on day two against Sri Lanka A in their third unofficial Test match in Dambulla.

The home team resuming from their overnight score of 272 for 7 was bowled out for 318 as the Windies wrapped up the innings in just 9.2 overs. Overnight batsman Roshen Silva was unfortunately out for 49 while lower-order batsman Kasun Madhushanka contributed with 20.

Windies A left-arm seamer, Delorn Johnson was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 65. Earlier on day one, Sandun Weerakkody top scored with a fabulous 79 while Kusal Janith Perera smashed 69.

In reply, the visitors lost opening batsman Rajendra Chandrika for just 11 runs as right-arm fast-bowler Madhushanka struck early. Left-handed Kieran Powell was clean bowled by Charith Asalanka for just 8 runs.

Hetmyer missed out on a well-deserved century as he smashed 17 fours during his 95-ball 94 before being caught by skipper Lahiru Thirimanne off Lakshan Sandakan. Vishaul Singh was trapped LBW by Lahiru Gamage for 15 while skipper Shamarh Brooks remained unbeaten on 43.

Only 54.2 overs were possible today as rain brought a premature end to second day’s play. West Indies A are still behind by 135 runs with two more day’s remaining in this series deciding encounter.
