Here’s a brief round up of the matches which took place in the U19 Singer Div I Cricket Tournament today

St Joseph’s College vs St Anthony’s College 

Half centuries from skipper Jehan Daniel, Nipun Sumanasinghe and Dineth Jayakody propelled St Joseph’s to 299 for 7 in their first innings against St Anthony’s College at Darley Road. Jehan, coming back from national duty stroked a brilliant 77, announcing himself in the school cricket arena.

In reply at stumps, the visitors were struggling at 93 for 4 in their 1st innings. Kavinda Stouter opened the batting and played a quick cameo of 40 before the spinners came on and put the brakes on the run flow.

St. Peter’s College vs St Benedict’s College 

St Peter’s took honours on day 1 in their traditional encounter against St. Benedict’s at Bambalpitiya. In preparation for the big match they batted out 61 overs to post 259 for 7 with half centuries from Shanon Fernando and Ranmith Jayasena.

In reply, Bens were in a spot of bother at 65 for 3 in their first innings.

Maliyadewa College vs Thurstan College 

Nipun Lakshan’s century helped Thurstan College to take the upper hand in their traditional encounter against Maliyadeva College at Kurunegala. Yeshan Wickramarachchi bagged a 5-for to restrict the hosts to 135 runs after they were put to bat first by the visitors.

Nipun Lakshan remained unbeaten on 107* as the day ended with 313 for 9 on board for Thurstan College and a lead of 177 runs.

Dharmasoka College vs St. Sebastian’s College 

This group B clash unravelled at Moratuwa today. St. Sebastian’s coming back from a dominant performance against St. Benedict’s last week managed to continue their good run of form this week. After winning the toss and electing to field first, Praveen Jayawickrama led the hunt from front with taking 4 for 23 as the visitors bundled out for 76 runs.

In reply, Sebs posted a mammoth 321 runs which included a half century from U19 national cap Nuwanidu Fernando and a few good cameos from the rest.

Group B encounter between St John’s and Isipathana took place in Colombo. After winning the toss, Isipathana College managed to restrict St. John’s to 179 runs. Madushika Sandruwan and Ayana Siriwardane starred with the ball for the green army.

In reply at stumps, Isipathana were 82 for 3 in Tier first innings.

Another Group B encounter took place at Kadirana between Mahanama College and Maris Stella College today. Maris Stella won the toss and elected to field first. Sonal Dinushka’s unbeaten 123 helped Mahanama College to reach 250 all out in 91 overs.
