Trinity youngsters come out on top against resilient Pathana

Trinity College U16 & U18 were both victorious against their Isipathana College counterparts at Havelock Park.

The U-18 match had some tough opening minutes  before Pathana got the first goal of the match. Trinity responded strong as they moved very close to the opposition try line on more than one occasion but were unable to break through the Pathana defence before the referee blew for half time with Pathana leading 7-0.

Trinity who were the more dominant side since Pathana got the first try, finally broke through the Pathana defence to get their goal of the match to equal the scores at 7-7.

Trinity continued on the front foot as they went on to get their second try and took the lead, but failed to convert. After another tough battle throughout the middle of the final half, Pathana finally broke through once again to get their second try and successfully converted to take the lead 14–12.

Trinity went onto get a penalty right on the Pathana 22 yard line and decided to go for the 3 points, but a very costly slip just before the kick saw it go well wide of the mark. However, Trinity youngsters not laying down, right at the death broke through the Pathana defence again and got the final goal that gave them the lead before the referee blew for full time.

The U-16 match similarly got off to a very even start, with majority of the early action taking place in the Pathana youngsters half. Trinity however finally with a good run got the breakthrough to get the goal right between the posts, ending the first half 0-7 to Trinity.

The second half was very physical, however neither side was able to get a single point in the half as both teams got close to the opposition try line a few times but could not get the final yards, before the referee blew for full time.
