St.Peter’s Crowned Under 17 Tennis Champions

St. Peter’s College was crowned Under 17 Tennis champions defeating S. Thomas’ College in the final a short while ago at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts.

The under 17 tennis championships which started off a fortnight back with the girls came to a closure this morning at the SLTA tennis courts with the semi-finals and final being worked out. After four days of preliminary rounds, S. Thomas’ College, St. Peter’s College, Royal College and Ananda College ended up qualifying for the semi-finals.

St. Peter’s College had it easy with Royal College in their semi-final match with the Peterites getting a clean 3/0 victory over Royal College. Ananda College were not fortunate enough to qualify for the final encounter as S. Thomas’ College secured a quite comfortable 3 games to 1 win.

The final encounter between St. Peter’s and S. Thomas had a close finish with the game going down to the wire to the final single. S. Thomas’ who won the first single outright 6/1, 6/0 lost the first doubles 6/0,6/1. The second single fell once again in the hands on the Thomians while St. Peters go themselves the second doubles.

With the final third single being the decider, it was Peterite Inthujan Selvarajah who brought victory for SPC winning the game 6/2, 6/2.

St. Peter’s College take the Under 17 title back after a considerable lapse and will look forward to retain their Under 19 title for the tenth occasion.
