Colombo International School vs. Gateway College Colombo

CIS kicked the game off strong showing off their talent from beyond the perimeter scoring 3 out of their 4 shots in the first 10 minutes from downtown. GC didn’t back down either moving fast to collect the ball and intercepting many passes and scoring heavily. It was in the last 10 minutes of the half that GC began to slip up missing most of their shots due to the defensive pressure from CIS full court press.

A fast paced second half was kicked off by CIS scoring first as both teams fought eagerly to take possession of the ball. CIS was relying entirely on their fast breaks and shots from downtown to secure the win whilst Gateway was relying on their ability to drive into the basket. Both teams did a good job of intercepting passes and converting them successfully into shots and at one point both teams took turns at leading the game.

In an exciting final quarter, CIS scored a shot from downtown which was soon replied by GC as they scored through a fast break before their opponent’s offence converted into defense. During the final few seconds CIS scored another shot from downtown however they were still trailing by a point when their luck ran out and the bell rang causing them to lose by a point.

Speaking to the coach of the Gateway team he had this to say to ThePapare.com “It was indeed a tough game and I think both teams played a very defense heavy game and it was difficult for us to counter all of their 3-pointers but I’m glad we managed even though it was by one point”

LISW started off the game scoring first and continued to have a 14-00 run until AIS finally scored way into the quarter. The AIS passes were intercepted with ease by the LISW girls which were then converted into fast breaks, the AIS players struggled to get back in time to stop these fast breaks.

AIS opted for a zone defense but the girls from LISW had no problem with that as they just breezed past the defense to continue scoring.

The second half of the game was started off yet again by LISW and they foiled any plans that AIS had of scoring as they were outscored in almost every quarter of the game. It was halfway into the 3rd quarter when AIS finally broke a double digit score.

Closer to the end of the game AIS switched to a man-to-man defense in hopes of reducing the growing deficit but it wasn’t as successful as it was hoped to be since LISW was consistent in scoring consecutive baskets. LISW was on a league of their own as they breezed past to victory.

The coach of LISW shared his thoughts with ThePapare.com “We played well and we intercepted passes well I think that was the key to our victory today but we have tougher opponents like Gateway coming up who won’t be as easy to beat”
