In a thrilling showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya (HFC) once again emerged victorious in the U20 ‘A’ Division Girls Basketball Tournament. Facing off against a formidable opponent, Good Shepherd Convent (GSC), the final match was a testament to the talent and determination of both teams. 

From the first quarter, it was evident that this would be a closely contested battle. The scoreboard reflected the intensity of the match, with HFC taking a narrow lead of 9-8. However, GSC quickly rallied in the second quarter, overtaking their opponents with a score of 23-21. 

As the game progressed into the third quarter, HFC fought back fiercely, regaining the lead with a score of 40-34. The tension in the air was palpable as both teams pushed themselves to the limit. In the final quarter, HFC made a remarkable comeback, securing the victory with a final score of 58-49. 

Despite the intense competition, both teams showcased exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the match. Players from both sides displayed impressive offensive and defensive strategies, keeping fans enthralled until the last second. 

However, amidst this intense battle, one player shone brighter than the rest. Dihini Dharmadasa, representing Holy Family Convent, not only received the title of Most Valuable Player but also etched her name into the annals of basketball history by scoring an astounding 32 points in the final game. Her remarkable performance not only propelled her team to victory, but also served as a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. 

In recognition of their outstanding performances, several players were honored with individual awards. Sonali Perera of Good Shepherd Convent earned the title of Best Offensive Player, following her prowess in scoring points for her team. Meanwhile, Binuthi Jayasinghe of Holy Family Convent was recognized as the Best Defensive Player for her exceptional ability to thwart her opponents’ attacks. 

In the consolation match, Lyceum International School Wattala faced off against St. Joseph’s Girls School Nugegoda, with the latter emerging victorious with a score of 43-28. 

With this victory, Holy Family Convent has solidified its reputation as a dominant force in girls’ Basketball, securing their fourth consecutive title in the U20 ‘A’ Division. Their dedication, teamwork, and unwavering spirit have once again propelled them to the pinnacle of success, inspiring future generations of athletes to strive for greatness on the court.
