Sri Lanka has made the request to host the next edition of the Games at a committee meeting a few days ago.

Sri Lanka has only hosted the prestigious games, twice before, in 1991 and 2006. Pakistan was named to play hosts for the 14th edition in 2021 but conflict arose with the security concerns prevailing in the country.

The delegation present at this particular meeting has proposed to host the Games in partnership with the Maldives, with sports such as football, beach volleyball and beach kabaddi to be hosted in Malé and the rest in Sri Lanka. It should be noted that the Maldives has not hosted a single edition of the South Asian Games, so far.
