Sri Lanka ‘A’ bowlers toil on opening day

West Indies ‘A’ dominated against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the 1st unofficial Test which started at Trelawny Stadium.

West Indies ‘A’ skipper Shamarh Brooks opted to bat first on a belter of a track at Florence hall. The hosts started off steadily before they lost their 1st wicket of Montcin Hodge for 13 with the help of Sri Lanka test cap Malinda Pushpakumara.

The seamers Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne hit their line and lengths but ended without any luck on the opening day.

Skipper Dananjaya De Silva tried eight bowling options but only Malinda Pushpakumara and off-spinner Shehan Jayasuriya were successful in claiming wickets. Left-arm spinner Pushpakumara picked up 2 for 62 in his 19.1 overs as the hosts controlled the day on 236/4 in 76.1 overs.

Opener John Campbell stroked 56 off 108 balls, while Vishaul Singh and Sunil Ambris remained unbeaten with half-tons at close of play.

Right-hander Ambris looked dangerous to the visitors as he smashed 10 boundaries in 75 balls to end up with 62 at stumps. both Ambris and Singh have accumulated 91 runs for the 5th wicket and hoping to make it big on the second day.
