Two quarterfinals of the Schools’ Under 13 Cricket tournament were held yesterday (16th) with Royal College Colombo and Mahinda College managing to claim 2 of the 4 semi-final spots on offer.

Royal College Colombo met Mahanama at a neutral venue for their Quarter final match. Having won the toss Mahanama opted to bat first on a good batting pitch at St. Joseph’s College grounds. Even with the advantage of batting first on a flat track, Mahanama could only make 134 for the loss of 8 wickets. Kavindu Amameth and Tharusha Vidanapathirana top scored with 31 and 20 runs respectively. Thineth Jayawardena and Shehad Perera picked up 2 wickets each.

In reply, Royal college made full use of the conditions making 243 runs for the fall of 7 wickets in 52.4 overs. Senula Deelaka made a solid 87 runs followed by Nethmin Dharmarathna and Sanvidu Senarathnarachchi who made thirties.

Mahinda College was the other team to qualify for the semis along with Royal yesterday. Having won the toss Mahinda batted first and put on 220 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Dhanuja Induwara stroked his way to an excellent 148 while Chandupa de Silva chipped in with 25 runs in their declared score. In reply St. Peter’s managed to score 213 for 5 wickets in just 36 overs but were unfortunate to not get the bonus points on which Mahinda managed to qualify. For St.Peter’s Dinuk Wijesinghe made an unbeaten 61 runs followed by Gavin Karunakalage and Nimuthu Gunawardana with 49 and 38 runs respectively.
