Ragama CC notched up their second win; Chilaw Marians battled their way to their third win and Badureliya CC recorded an important maiden win as the 6th week of the SLC Premier League Tournament ‘Tier A’ 2016/17 came to a close on Sunday.

Ragama CC vs BRC

Left-arm spinner Amila Aponso grabbed an 8-wicket match haul as Ragama CC crushed BRC by 8 wickets in their group B encounter at BRC grounds.

The hosts’ were bundled out for 194 and 152 in both their innings’ respectively while Roshen Silva reached 6000 first class runs scoring yet another 91 for the visitors in their first innings. Aponso took 5 wickets in the first innings followed by a three-for as Ragama maintained their top position in group B.

Chilaw Marians vs SSC

Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara took a 10-wicket haul and raced to 48 wickets in the current competition as Chilaw Marians notched up a cracking 34-run victory over the fancied SSC outfit in their group A match at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.

Right-arm leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay registered his best bowling performance in first-class cricket, 10 for 155 and scored his career-best with the bat, 69 runs but failed to push his team to a victory as the visitors fell short in their chase of 324.

The hosts’ took a slim 14-run lead in the first innings as Pushpakumara ran through the SSC line up taking 7 for 52 as he reached a personal milestone of 500 wickets in first-class cricket.

Badureliya CC vs Galle CC

Badureliya CC clinched a convincing 7-wicket win over Galle CC in the wooden spoon game in the group A at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

A collective bowling effort by Alankara Asanka, Dilesh Gunarathne, Nuwan Karunarathne, Savith Priyan enabled the home team to restrict the visitors for 218 and 233 respectively. Captain Alankara was the stand out performer with the bat scoring 85 while Sahan Wijerathne and Nadeera Nawala made vital fifties in the first innings for the winners.

Colts vs SL Army

Sadeera Samarawickrama’s brilliant century almost took Colts to a famous run chase against SL Army SC as an exciting group B match ended in a thrilling draw at Colts grounds.

After being bowled out for 112 in the first innings and set a victory target of 474 runs, Colts held their nerve to play positive cricket as they pummeled the Soldiers at 5.56 to score 445 for 9 at close of play on day three. Former Josephian smashed 130 off 98 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes to set the chase in motion while Sri Lanka Army opening batsman Leo Fransisco slammed his second ton in the season.

Veteran left-hander Jeevan Mendis’ unbeaten 151 was the main highlight for the defending champions, Tamil Union as they recorded a first-innings win over NCC in their drawn group A match at P. Sara Oval grounds.

Mendis hammered 12 fours and 3 fours as the hosts posted 446 in reply to NCC first innings score of 268. Chathuranga De Silva and Niroshan Dickwella made blistering 80s for the visitors as they reached 349 for 6 at close of play. Mendis ended with a five-wicket match bag apart of his batting brilliance as the reigning kings consolidated their top position in the points table.

Ashan Priyanjan and Lasith Abeyrathne stunned the hosts scoring big centuries as the visitors smashed 560 earlier in the game. Moors after being bowled out for 275, was set a victory target of 423 and ended the game on 141/6. Left-arm spinner, Sandakan Pathirana took 6 scalps for the hosts as they bundled out CCC for just 137 in search of quick runs.
