The first ever junior golf tournament at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa will tee off on the 3rd and 4th March with the practice game on the 2nd.
The tournament has been shifted to a brand new location as a result of the collaboration of Prima Sunrise (Prima Group Sri Lanka) and Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, the tournament’s title sponsor and hospitality partner respectively.

Shangri-La Hambantota is the only golf resort in Sri Lanka; Spread across a vast coconut palm plantation, the par-70, 18-hole golf course offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, with distinctive challenges for both beginners and seasoned players. The golf course was designed by the globally celebrated designer, Rodney Wright.
The first ever Regional Junior Open was played in 2013 in Kandy followed by Eagles Golf Links, China Bay, Trincomalee.

This initiative has been the brainchild of the Junior Sub Committee of Sri Lanka Golf where the Regional tournaments have been created as a platform for junior golfers to compete at both Regional and National levels, to show their young talent for national and international representation.
Also, the numbers have grown with the popularity of the game increasing island-wide due to the focused outreach programs carried out by Sri Lanka Golf to propagate the sport at the grassroots, in such areas like Kilinochchi, Anuradhapura, Diyathalawa, Welisera, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
