The Prima Champion’s cup under 15 Inter District/ Provincial Cricket tournament will be held for the 8th consecutive year commencing on the 3rd of September 2014. A press conference was held today at the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters to brief the media on the event to take place.

The tournament commencing on the 3rd will see the participation of over 580 players from all parts of the country including the North & East. 29 teams will compete against each other and best players from these district teams will be selected for the provincial team. Ten Provincial teams will then compete for the Provincial championship. Also, there are 5 teams participating from the Northern Province representing Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mulativu and Kilinochchi which will go a long way in building bridges of friendship between the North and South.

Mr. Hirantha Perera; the asst. Secretary to SLC said “The Prima group need no introduction in Sri Lanka and tournaments of this sort is key to identifying young budding talent”. This provides an ideal platform for the future of Sri Lanka to step up and show what they are made of. Niroshan Dickwella, who joined the national test team recently had played the Prima Champions cup in 2008. Binura Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawikrama and Priyamal Perera who represented the under 19 national team had played the tournament in its earlier editions too just going to show that young talent was identified at this tournament in the previous years. Mr. Perera finally thanked Prima for the invaluable support towards Sri Lanka Cricket and helping you cricketers fulfill their dreams.

Saying that all plans have been finalized for an inspiring tournament, Mr. Shun Tien Shing, General Manager, Ceylon Agro Industries LTD (Prima group SL) thanked SLC for giving the Prima group the opportunity. “It gives immense pleasure to know that in 7 years we have touched 2600 inspiring cricketers and we are a part of uplifting junior cricket in Sri Lanka” said the General Manager.

Prima Champions Cup under 15 District and Provincial tournaments will undoubtedly help the young cricketers gain their confidence and experience in the coming years. With views to showcase their cricketing talent these matches will receive extensive TV coverage while the finals will be telecasted on CSN on the 27th of September 2014.
