Prestige Automobile (Pvt) Ltd. will sponsor for the third successive year the MCA ‘C’ Division 50-overt League Tournament 2014.
The following 10 teams pooled into two groups will be vying for the ‘BMW-Hyundai’ Trophy.
Group ‘A: Arpico SC, PABC Bank, MAS Linea Aqua, Kanrich and Hayleys Group RC (except for Arpico, the rest are new to this division)
Group ‘B’: Mobitel, Merchant Bank, SL (Insurance), Dialog Axiata, MAS Silueta and Janashakthi Insurance (except for Mobitel and MBSL, the rest are new to this division).
Flashback to 2013: in a banker’s battle, HSBC ‘A’ lifted the BMW-Hyundai Trophy, beating Commercial Bank ‘A’ by 36 runs in the final at the P. Sara Oval.
The tournament will be significant this year, as the MCA newly laid turf, restored after 23 years, was ceremonially opened on January 5. Thirteen matches will be placed at the venue.
The league segment of the tournament will get underway this week-end, January 11 and 12 with a card of five matches. On Saturday, 11th January, Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka (Insurance) and Janashakthi Insurance will be the first two teams to play on the MCA new turf.
The other match venues will be played at Army Grounds, Panagoda, Surray Grounds, Maggona, FTZ Grounds, Katunayake, Colts and Bloomfield Grounds.
The league segment, consisting of 20 matches will conclude on January 29, and at this point, the first four teams of each group will advance to the knock-out stage quarter–finals.
The elimination stage matches will take place on February1 and 2 (quarter-finals), February 8 and 9 (semi-finals), and the final will be played at the MCA grounds.
All matches will be supervised by an MCA appointed Match Referee.
The BMW special awards on offer are for the Best Batsman, Beat Bowler and Man of the Tournament (based on performances in the group stage matches); and for the Man-of-the-Match in the final.
